How we prune large laurel hedge windbreaks
Переглядів 1432 місяці тому
Charles showing us the windbreaks originally planted in 2006. Planted in several rows to give a quick and thick, effective windbreak, however now they have mostly done their job and only 1 row is needed to provide the windbreak, that rather than having to prune and maintain the thicker hedge, the extra rows can now just be completely removed. This method of course only works if you plan ahead a...

Windbreak camellias and how to move them
Переглядів 2964 місяці тому
These camellias were planted 20 years ago as a windbreak at Caerhays to shield more rare and young trees from the wind straight off the sea, they have now served their purpose here and can be sacrificed, to make room, now the trees are large enough and don't need the extra protection. The trees have also been uplifted to give to a better shape in the longer run. www.burncoose.co.uk

Selecting scented rhododendrons cuttings
Brillant thank you for pertinance and brevity
What does the berry taste like?
So peat free for PH? Im just getting started. I hear about peat free but am not completely understanding why yet.
Theres a ton of stuff you can use to kill spider mites what are you talking about
Very helpful, thank you. Nice and practical, straight to the point.
I've done this with my young plum trees they put on a lot long thin branches at the top going in all directions and I've rounded them off.. They have only been in the ground 2 years and the trunk is very thin so all that top growth could snap it.. And it didn't stop them producing plums already. .
I could listen to Charles & his wealth of knowledge all day! This is great advice, thank you so much.
Mine is quadruple the size HELP 😂
I love rhododendron there's something about them.
great video, very informative, thanks!
This helped me so so so so much!!! You explained in 3 min what people waste so much time on
Interesting question for you. My very young roses are just starting to climb up.the wall. All the blooms are at the end of the main cane's because they are currently training fairly vertical. They say not to cut main cane's so what do I do with those blooms to encourage the main cane to get longer.
Literally I have the same question as is happening to me too … 😅
Love what you do
Great work pays off eventually 💪🏻
Agree with the comment below, of all the videos done on poppies, you are the only one that addresses cutting them back after spring blooming (here it's Jul 2nd) and you tell me that there's still enough of summer, the fall for them to get enough foliage again before winter, then have a beautiful display again next summer. Confirms what I was thinking. Short, sweet and to the point. Thank you. Watching from Ontario, Canada.
Hi, I see those seeds are from the hemsleyanus cultivar. Are they essentially the same for the Styrax Japonicus? I tried stratifying them for 3 months in the fridge in some peat moss, but I only had 1 out of about 30 sprout in the spring. I never peeled off any shell outer later, so maybe that was the issue. It's not easy to find information on them.
My favourite vitex tree my house near lots of the uses this tree leaves
i didn't know you could prune saucer magnolia while it's dormant
Do they only flower once a year? My plant only flowered about 10 days. Didn't last long at all 😢
Somebody tell me the UK region/shire his accent is from pls. Very notable, it's not a common one?
Superb advice, thank you Charlie
Fascinating. I've never heard of this process before.
Nice video but Mike kinkade on UA-cam takes cutting on all but one or two and has at least 85 percent success rate look up his videos. Thanks
I think he specified for the large leaf variety here. Must be the regular or small propagate fine
Thank you for this video! I needed to trim my Azaleas and this came very helpful❤
Great and informative video. This is exactly the information I was looking for!
I want one to grow as a tree ! 🌲
Hi, Can I sow these seeds in May? Same planting region.
`Tis indeed a stunning Rhodie. Excellent demo` 👍
Straight forward and easy to follow. Many thanks.
Stunningly beautiful 🤩
Congratulations on the gold medal!!!🥇 was never in doubt really the standard of your plants is always exceptional.
It is invasive! It is beautiful but can take over very quickly.
I've had acanthus mollis growing in deep shade for 40 years. My single plant is now 3 stately plants. Hardly what I'd call "invasive" and I'm grateful for each of them. If you're not going to be planting it in a shady area put it in a pot. It's a gorgeous plant.
Congratulations on winning a Gold Medal, very well deserved!
Like this plant a lot, and nice to see a large one. Very good to know that it self seeds well so I can give some away. Thank you
Please take this video down - thanks
Great info. Thank you. 👍
Thank you so much ☺
Looks good 👍

I want to plant mine in pots until they get bigger what would you recommend for potting soil?
She’s good to listen to it’s hard to find uk videos on such things! Thanks for the video!
Wow this is brilliant Thank you ❤
Yes, in the U.K. we are being palmed off with this rubbish called ‘peat free’ compost! It looks and performs like sweepings from the woodland floor! The danger, besides the fact that it is rubbish, is that the top soil looks dry the day after you water it, so you water it again and the plant dies because under the dry surface the pot is waterlogged - if you use this crap buy a moisture probe (£9) off eBay! “Better for the planet” 😂 These UKs governmental WOKE extremists (“save this - save that”) don’t realise that in Ireland (where most of the UK’s peat comes from) they still use peat based compost, they still burn peat in the form of peat briquettes which are also exported and are manufactured by Bord na Móna, a partially STATE OWNED COMPANY!!! So clearly the Irish government aren’t concerned about the planet!
Just to add to what someone else said: it's pronounced "cah-LISS-stuh-mon"
Very good demonstration and the stones are a great idea
Like Net Zero and other Scams , peat free is on the whole not a bad idea, but as a specialist grower, not commercial but private, yhis is having an impact on people like myself, who have very larfe gardens and private collections of plants. We can not afford to make mistakes and our efforts do feed into the commercial sector as recipients of plant hunting. Proteacea are a case in point, where nutrient control is essential. Peat free composts do not fit this requirement. So Access to good quality peat is a must. The problem was the over and unecesary use of peat by the general public where peat free works fine. But for serious growers it does not.
Hi can I take cutting in May or should I wait until September as I don't have a greenhouse? Thank you great video 😊 Natalie
Non-gardener, living in the North East UK. My late father bought a 9inch Cordy in the late 90's. Up until last year, I didn't know they flowered. Across the County, every one I saw had flowers. Couldn't believe after all these years it'd never happened, then everyone's at once.
What brand of soil, fertilizer and compost did you use to repot the saplings?
wow I wish our ground was that easy to dig. We have clay soil in Houston, Tx. I liked the video. It was helpful.
